Abrar is a mental health counselor with extensive experience working with trauma since 2014; she is a member with CCPA with a passion for empowering marginalized youth and women. She is the 2021 Honorary Women of Distinction. She was born in Hamilton & raised in Aleppo, Syria. When the civil war broke out, she remained in Syria to volunteer and work with SOS, UNICEF, and UNHCR to provide children and their families with trauma-informed mental health care. She is the Founder & CEO of ABRAR Trauma and Mental Health Services, which was founded in 2020 and led a national mental health campaign to highlight the impact of COVID-19 on marginalized youth mental health in Canada and call for the implementation of a post-pandemic mental health recovery plan. Also, she is part of the Advisory Committee at the TMU School of Child & Youth Care as an Advisory Committee, and a community wellness advisor.
